Water Wall Primer
Water fountains are a common fixture in many parks and gardens, but water walls are only recently growing in popularity. In fact many people have never heard of a water wall and might not even realize that you are talking about a style of fountain without contextual information to help them out. In essence, water walls are simply a style of water fountain that sets the water cascading down a surface in a wide sheet, and generally places the visual emphasis on the water itself rather than on the design of the fountain and its spout.
There are plenty of water wall designs that break this last rule, of course. Many of them use intricate designs to help the water tumble down in various patterns like a Rube Goldberg machine, or place a visually stimulating design behind the cascading water. However, in most models the water is itself the focal point and the wall is an accent to enhance it. They are often used to help enhance stark spaces by adding both a visual and an auditory effect that is both beautiful and soothing. For example, it is common to find water walls in both meditative spaces and corporate waiting rooms.
Adding water walls to your home or office is a classy way to enhance the atmosphere of the space. They can draw attention to a certain focal point, or be used to create a relaxing ambiance to decrease stress levels and increase creativity and productivity. It depends entirely on the need of the situation and the prominence and positioning of the fountain.
